Students at participating schools can use U-Pass CT for unlimited rides within the state – even on weekends and holidays. The cost of the program is already included in your student fees, so all you need is your U-Pass CT and valid student ID when you board any participating service, and be sure you’re following all of the conditions of use.

  • CTrail Hartford Line trains between New Haven and Springfield, including Amtrak trains (except Vermonter Trains 54, 55, 56 and 57 at any time, and Amtrak Northeast Regional Trains 140, 141, 143, 146, 147, 148, 157 during holiday blackout periods only)
  • CTrail Shore Line East trains. (Not valid for shoreline Amtrak trains)
  • New Haven Line (Metro-North) trains in Connecticut up to the state border. (Not valid for travel to NY or on shoreline Amtrak trains)

**U-Pass CT is NOT accepted on the I-Bus Express from Stamford to White Plains.

  • Who is eligible?
    Many schools limit U-Pass CT usage to full-time undergrads, once you've confirmed your school participates in the program, contact your school for more eligibility information.
  • What are the conditions of use?

    • U-Pass CT valid for use by students enrolled at participating colleges & universities. Eligibility to obtain a U-Pass is determined by the college or university
    • U-Pass CT is valid for unlimited rides on local & express buses in Connecticut, CTfastrak, CTrail Shore Line East, CTrail Hartford Line, in-state New Haven Line services, and Amtrak trains operating between New Haven / Springfield (except Vermonter Trains 54, 55, 56 & 57). Not valid on private inter-city bus carriers or on other Amtrak routes
    • This pass is not refundable or transferable.
    • Valid student ID from participating college or university must be shown to bus operator, conductor, or fare inspector at time of use
    • Do not fold, bend, or place near magnet. Lost, stolen, or destroyed passes should be reported to issuing school
    • U-Pass CT valid for the period printed on the face of the pass

  • How long is the pass effective?
    The spring semester U-Pass CT covers Jan 1, through July 31.
    The fall semester U-Pass CT covers August 1, through December 31.
  • What is the cost?
    The cost of U-Pass CT is included as part of student fees at the participating schools.
  • How do students get the U-Pass CT?
    Students get their U-Pass CT directly from their college/university. UConn students should contact Transportation Services at upass.uconn.edu. Students at all other participating colleges and universities should contact their Bursar’s Office to obtain a pass.
  • What is required for students to use the U-Pass CT and on what types of transportation can it be used?
    Students must present a valid student ID from their college/university every time they use the U-Pass CT for travel.
  • What happens if student attends multiple Connecticut State Colleges and University schools?
    A student will only be charged once for the pass. Students will need to request a waiver from their second school after the payment of the first fee. Proof of the first payment will be required.
  • Does U-Pass CT work on Amtrak?
    U-Pass CT is not valid on any shoreline Amtrak trains. It is valid on Amtrak trains on CTrail Hartford Line between New Haven and Springfield, MA except the Vermonter (trains 54, 55, 56 and 57).
